Don’t sleep on the power of core texture pieces!

Storage and warmth.

Baskets and throw blankets are often a staple in filling empty space and creating a cozy setup for your home. The rattan basket presented is one that I’ve picked up from CB2 and the cream throw is a 30$ find from Target. On their own, each item offers so much texture which isn’t only visually appealing but it will help diffuse a space that might come across very flat. (Think modular furniture with straight lines and boxy angles.)

Flashin’ Lights

When you are on the hunt for filling blank space, I would definitely incorporate elements of light. I am a HUGE fan of sconces and organic ceiling fixtures. Not only do these items serve as a switch to help your home beam like a Christmas tree— but they provide such visual interest. I’ve attached a great picture of the pleated sconce shades that I have in my guest room. They offer so much character!

TV’s pretending to be art….is probably the best invention ever.

I love a gigantic TV with earth shattering music (I’m partially deaf) just as much as the next burly man. HOWEVER- large, gaudy TV’s and design schemes don’t go hand and hand. At least not with my design schemes. Switch out that hanging eyesore for a Samsung Frame. Upload a few vintage pieces and sit back as it mirrors actual art. The Frame maybe a splurge item, but it is soooooo worth it. Art (especially large art) is a great statement piece!

I know I didn’t talk about TV’s on sideboards with exposed wires and I won’t. Exposed wire is my sleep paralysis demon. But do you know what isn’t a sleep paralysis demon? The Samsung Frame! Check it out here: clickity click!

Simple florals

The best thing about finding texture is that it’s all around you. Often in the shape of flowers, limbs and berries. This picture of the rose jar is actually from a gift that ended up drying out. Caleb bought these on our first anniversary and here we are nearly 3 years later—Stalks still standing tall. Never ever forget the power of simple items that can be found in nature! Plus awww, * memories. *
